About AltTuningLab.com
What problem does this tool solve?
Whenever a guitarist experiments with alternate tunings (especially on 7-string and 8-string guitars commonly used in modern metal), standard chord shapes and scale fingerings immediately become useless. This disrupts the songwriting process and makes it incredibly difficult to navigate the fretboard dynamically. AltTuningLab solves this by recalculating exactly where every note, chord, and scale lands based on your custom string configurations in real-time.
Who is this for?
This tool is built for modern guitarists, metalhead composers, and music theorists who refuse to be boxed in by standard E-A-D-G-B-E tuning. Whether you play a 6-string in Drop D, a 7-string in Drop A or B Standard, or an 8-string exploring extremely low tunings, this visualizer will help you map out your fretboard.
How to use AltTuningLab
Start by selecting a tuning preset or configuring your own strings individually from low to high. Next, optionally pick a Scale Root and Type (like Harmonic Minor or Phrygian Dominant) to overlay the scale's footprint across the neck in gray. Finally, pick a Chord Root and Quality to see exactly how to voice that specific chord within your active scale. You can even sequence multiple chords into the Progression Builder to map out a whole song visibly!
